The "Future Classroom: Mountains, Rivers and Youth in the Song Dynasty's Iambic Verses" classical recitation event was held in the High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China (RUC) in Beijing on the afternoon of April 27. A book titled "Future Classroom: Recitation and Appreciation of the Song Dynasty's Classical Iambic Verses" was unveiled at the ceremony as well.
The ceremony brought together Shen Beili, Vice-Chairperson of the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF), Tian Jin, Vice-Chairperson of the China Federation of Radio and Television Associations (CFRTA), Liu Xiaohui, Party Secretary and Principal of the RUC Affiliated High School, representatives of the Taofen Foundation, publishing houses, the CSCLF Council, compilers of the newly-unveiled book, teacher and student representatives of the RUC Affiliated High School.

Shen said that the Song Dynasty's iambic verses are a brilliant treasure in the Chinese literature and that they have conveyed profound cultural heritage and sincere patriotism. The "Future Classroom: Recitation and Appreciation of the Song Dynasty's Classical Iambic Verses" has selected masterpieces, made interpretation of classical literary works from modern perspectives, held dialogues with ancient people through youthful language, and built a bridge for youth to better understand relevant literary writings. Noting that the CSCLF is committed to the comprehensive development of youth, she added that the organization of such a thematic event, which fell in the National Reading Week, was one of important measures adopted by the foundation to act on Xi Jinping Thought on Culture and support the National Reading Initiative.
Shen emphasized that the special event should help youth foster good reading habits, strengthen their capacity building in reading, enhance their reading quality, and make unique contributions to the building of a sound social environment that the public love and excel in reading and read good books.

Tian said that the Song lyrics have conveyed the broad-mindedness as great Song Dynasty poet Su Shi put in his "Nian Nu Jiao: Memories of the Past at Red Cliff", embodied ancient philosophies like another renowned Song Dynasty poet Xin Qiji wrote in his "Green Jade Cup: Lantern Festival Night", and displayed precious artistic value as well as spiritual essence that are an important mental source for youth in the new era to nurture patriotism and cultural confidence.
He added that the organization of the special event and the release of the literary work were designed to fully implement the guiding principles of the third plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping's important discourses about cultural inheritance and development, promote the in-depth integration between classical recitation and modern education, and inject fresh vitality into classical literature.
At the ceremony, attending officials donated the newly-published book to teachers and students in the RUC Affiliated High School.

The masterpiece recitation event was jointly chaired by Zhang Hong, Principal Director of the "Poetic China" program on the China Education Television channel and Famous Performing Artist, and Li Mochen, a student with the RUC Affiliated High School. The performance event comprised four parallel chapters, which were themed with "the Mountains and Rivers," "the Years," "the Youth," and "the Homeland." Renowned artists such as Zang Jinsheng, Wang Ban, Fei Ye, Ji Guanlin, Lu Qi, Li Xiuping, Jiang Meiyi, Guo Kaimin and Zhu Lin gave their passionate recitation of the Song lyrical masterpieces, including Su Shi's "Prelude to Water Melody", Yue Fei's "the River All Red," and the classical works by the Song poets from two main schools. Teachers and students from the RUC Affiliated High School presented excellent recitations and classical dances, offering a distinctive literary appreciation class.

The "Future Classroom: Recitation and Appreciation of the Song Dynasty's Classical Iambic Verses", which was jointly compiled by the CSCLF and the CFRTA, has contained 100 classical lyrics. Attending students said that the special recitation event has further deepened their understanding of the Song lyrics, the feeling and thinking behind relevant poets and that they have been fully captivated by the charm of selected literary works as well as artists' excellent performance, adding that they will study the book hard and carry forward fine traditional Chinese culture to promote the popularity of the Song lyrics.
Teachers in the RUC Affiliated High School agreed that artists' performance showed to them a historical and cultural panorama of the Song Dynasty, promoted fine traditional Chinese culture and the Song lyrics, enhanced youth's humanistic literacy and moral standards, and consolidated their cultural confidence. More importantly, the special event was full of patriotism and the love of both country and family, becoming a though-provoking moral and ideological class.
