A cultural performance was held at the National Centre for the Performing Arts over the past weekend to celebrate International Children's Day, bringing together more than 1,000 teenagers and children from across the country.
The event, organized by the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, the China Welfare Institute, and the NCPA, was themed "Growing Up with the Motherland". Through a variety of artistic forms, including choral recitations, traditional operas, instrumental performances, martial arts and acrobatics, as well as displays of intangible cultural heritage, it showcased the positive spirit and vitality of children in the new era.
The event also featured young participants from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, who took part in martial arts demonstrations, lion dragon dance and choir performances.
This year commemorates the 80th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War. As part of the event, historical reenactments highlighted values like peace, resilience and aspiration. For instance, a stage play dramatized Soong Ching Ling's efforts to rally global backing for War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45) and her founding of orphanages to protect the country's future.
